Rue & Lait isn’t a portfolio — it’s a journal.

It’s the record of building homes with my husband, studying proportion and light, traveling to Paris in search of storied pieces, and learning that the way a space is framed shapes the life inside it.

I didn’t come from a design studio. I came from learning by doing — from farm mornings, old windows, and rooms arranged with intention.

Here, I share what we’re building — the beauty and the struggles — and the freedom to make your house your house, without chasing perfection.

Because a life isn’t shaped by picture-perfect spaces.

A Home Filled with Heart

My mom had a special gift for making every season feel like something to celebrate.

She believed that a home should always feel warm, inviting, and ready to welcome anyone who might knock on the door — whether they were expected or just passing by. Some of my warmest memories come from those beautiful moments:

The delicate details she would add to the dining table at Easter — little touches of fresh flowers, soft pastels, and carefully chosen decorations that made every meal feel like a celebration.
The way she transformed our home at Christmas, draping garlands across mantels, hanging twinkling lights, and filling every corner with warmth and wonder as well as love.

Our home wasn’t the biggest or the fanciest, but it always felt the most welcoming — because every detail was touched by love, thoughtfulness, and grace. Those memories left a lasting mark on me. They taught me that beauty doesn’t come from a price tag; it comes from intention.
